Finally got round to attempting to make a bag using some material I got from Ebay a long time ago. I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out, even though I kind of had to wing it at the end because I didn’t understand the end part of the tutorial I was reading. But at least it looks like a bag, right?
I’m on my way to becoming a Bag Master.

It’s been a while since I posted. My life is in complete turmoil for various reasons, and it’s been difficult to get the time to focus on doing something relaxing like knitting.
Anyway, I am working on something. Well, it’s the star-crossed slouchy beret (still). I had to frog it and start over because I made it too small the first time. If I could only finish it, I’d be the happy owner of a lovely new hat! Things just keep getting in the way though, and I’m lazy.
It’s very difficult to pick up an unfinished knitting project after not touching it for weeks or months. You have to remember exactly where you left off. It’s annoying.
As you can tell, I have very little to post about. I’ll post some pictures once I finish my hat. I wish I could move onto making other more adventurous things. I’m sure I could handle it. But yarn is expensive, and let’s face it, unless you’re skinny, clothing items made from yarn are going to make you look frumpier than you are. And I just don’t want to look worse than I already do. Yep, that’s the main reason I’ve never moved onto making more complicated things for myself: low self esteem. Awesome. I’ve often thought that I would love to have a mannequin and just make perfectly-sized clothes for that, but that seems awfully silly. Like buying a loaf of unsliced bread and cutting the end off, and then reaching in and just grabbing a handful of the fluffy-white-inside-of-bread. Who wants to eat the crusts?
Perhaps I’ll spend a little time working on my hat. Would be nice to actually get something finished!

Finally got round to taking some (not so great) pictures of my new handwarmers. It’s overcast and grey here today, so even in the middle of the day, it’s never going to be properly light when it’s winter. Anyway, I did my best with the photos. Here they are!

For anyone who is interested in making these, check out the pattern here. I used Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran and used about 3/4 of the skein. The colour is slightly off in the photos, they’re a really lovely blue. Anyway, the pattern is very straightforward. You knit them flat, then sew up the side, leaving a hole for the thumb. Couldn’t be simpler!
And now, to get to work on the Star Crossed Slouchy Beret! (I frogged the Trinity Stitch Hat I was working on, because I decided that the SCSB would be prettier). Pictures to come soon!

Not much to post about today, so I thought I would post a picture I took a few weeks ago when we were playing around with some of that strange putty stuff you get in a tin. Mike’s finger (Mr. Putty) is on the right, and my finger is on the left (Mrs. Putty). What a fine young sophisticated couple we make! Out for a night at the opera, I imagine.
Knitting update: I’ve finished the gloves I started the day before yesterday, although really they could have easily been done in a few hours. I just get very lazy when there is sewing involved. I’d take sewing over dpns any day, though. Well, for small projects like this, anyway. I was going to take some pictures today, but I seem to have missed the window of opportunity (ie. when it’s not dark outside), and so it will have to wait until tomorrow’s daylight (assuming I don’t miss it again).

Well, it’s almost a month since we moved from Scotland to a little village in Norfolk. On the whole, it went well, and I’m happy. I even got myself a new job, which I start in December. I’m excited, but quite nervous about it. It’s been about five years since I had a ‘normal’ job, working with ‘normal’ people. I’m enjoying being in Norfolk - I instantly feel at home here, being as it is that I now live only about 10 miles from where I grew up.
I’ve been out jogging three times a week, doing the Couch to 5k plan. It’s going alright, but I’ve made a decision not to make eye contact with people I see on the road (people always seem to be out and about walking their dogs, or raking up leaves and things), and while I always try to smile and perhaps say hello, I’ll just keep my eyes on the road and try to ignore them. You see, I get so red and sweaty, I’m sure I just look pretty frightful. So yeah. Don’t want to frighten the neighbours. As much as I hate forcing myself to go jogging, once I’m out there, it’s really quite enjoyable. I like the feel of outside, even when it’s rainy and grey. The little lanes near my house are pretty good for jogging, and there are few cars. It’s nice to have the chance to be alone, sometimes.
I finally got to John Lewis the other day. All that lovely yarn. I got two skeins. One is being used for a slouchy beret sort of hat (either the Trinity Stitch Hat or the Star Crossed Slouchy Beret), and the other is being used to make these gloves. They’re in a really lovely blue. So nice to be knitting again. I might be finished with the gloves tomorrow, depending on whether or not I can be bothered to sew them both up (these are knit flat and then sewn down the side, which is what appealed to me - given my general hatred of double-pointed needles). I will try and have them done tomorrow, and post some pictures!
